All Aboard for ‘The eBay Killers’ Virtual Book Tour

I was having a chat to my mate Fred and floated the idea of a virtual book tour to capture a few of the sights and scenes contained in The eBay Killers. Kruger loved the idea, so armed with an iPhone,  I headed out to tour the Inner South of Canberra where the book is mostly set.

Budget constraints meant I was unable to visit Sydney, Kowloon and Cape Town, but it’s captured the bulk of the major scenes, and had a few beers on the way around as well :)

‘The eBay Killers’ Sales Frenzy Blows Week 1 Projections

After declaring an unexpected early launch date, The eBay Killers hit the ground running and has the cash register ticking over. With a lofty sales target of 100 copies, David Miller’s first novel has chopped away nearly a quarter of the sales goal and with just 77 sales remaining to hit the mark, confidence is at an all time high.

“I expected the book to hit the shelves, sell a few to family and friends and then disappear into obscurity.”

When asked what the surge in sales is attributed to, Miller’s response was simple, “Good friends and family and propping up the sales effort so far.”

“We opened our online store on Monday night and had already notched up a few sales by Tuesday morning.”

“Although you can buy direct from Amazon, I’ve ordered a limited print run and will be selling them in country. Every hard copy edition sold in country will be personally signed. I’m not sure if it will have any future value, it just sounds kind of cool to be selling signed editions.”

Amazon Rankings Surge

Since the release of the book on February 21, its Amazon ranking has climbed steadily from 828, 160 and hit a new high of 744,518 on Tuesday afternoon.

The push in book sales has also lifted Miller’s Amazon Author Ranking to 329,282. “To be recognised in the top half a million authors in the world is mind-boggling. I don’t know how many authors there are, I just know there are some now that are even more obscure than I am.”

What Next?

After some positive reviewer feedback, Miller is now in the process of looking for an agent for wider distribution.

“It sounds impressive, but it’s not. The chances are slim of getting a book deal, but I know I will be a true author when I get to nail up a few rejection slips.”

While that journey continues, you can still push the sales along today by grabbing a copy and enjoying a great read…….

So, what’s the story about?

Without giving too much away, this is the brief that went up to Amazon and iBooks this morning:

Mike Winters dreamed of escaping his dead-end job and living a peaceful life by the beach. His decision to start an online business unwittingly draws him into the dark world of international cyber-crime with explosive and deadly consequences.

The eBay Killers is a rollicking tale of young love, assassins, suburban swingers, Interpol, bashings, AC/DC, the Australian Federal Police, Captain America, bikers, strip clubs, a stuffed fox named Tyler and the transformation of a leafy Canberra suburb into a war zone.

How did I get it published so fast?

Thank god for the internet is all I can say. It has enabled indie authors like myself to leap-frog the traditional path of pitching a publisher for a book deal. Through a publishing group called Smashwords, as well as the big dog Amazon, I have been able to publish and hit a global market quite easily. There was a bit of messing around with graphics and formatting.

So what now?

I’m on the marketing trail and pushing the book both online and in person.

As a part of the publishing process, I will be having a print run done for book store distribution and the inevitable boozy book launch, which will happen in April.

I’ve started work on the follow-up book on the life and times of Mike Winters, but you will need to read The eBay Killers first to know what in the hell is going on.

Thanks for your understanding for getting hit twice in a week, I think you will love The eBay Killers as much as I did writing it.

I wrote it once in the dedication and I’ll say it again, I love you my beautiful wife. Thank you for all your support and encouragement in writing and finishing The eBay Killers.
